Launch day rewards the makers who prepared the night before. This is the short version of what the best launches on AfterBuild have in common: a clear one-liner, a first comment ready to go, and a plan for the day after.
Most of the work happens before the board opens at 8:00. Do these five things and the morning is calm.
- Tighten the tagline. One short sentence, no jargon. "Turn your README into a landing page in one click" beats "A next-generation documentation platform".
- Pick a tile and two tags. The tile is the first thing people see. Choose tags that say who it is for, not what it is made of.
- Write the first comment. Say who you are, why you built it and what you would like feedback on.
- Open the link in a private window. A signup wall or a broken page costs more votes than any tagline can win back.
- Tell five people when it goes live. Not a mass blast. Five real messages to people who will actually try it.
The board ranks by votes as they arrive, so the first hours matter, but the whole day counts. Stay close to your launch and treat it like a shop opening.
- Post the first comment as soon as you are live. Then leave the thread alone for a while and let people respond.
- Answer every comment, even a short one. A reply from the maker is the most persuasive thing on the page.
- Fix the first thing people hit. If three people trip on the same step, change it today and say so in the thread.
The board resets, and that is where most launches stop. This is where yours can pull ahead.
- Post your first build-log entry. One line is enough: what you learned and what you will change.
- Thank the people who commented. They are your first users, so treat them that way.
- Pick the one thing to ship next. Say it in public. It gives people a reason to come back.
The board opens at 8:00 and your slot is live from then. Launching at the start gives your product the whole day to collect votes and comments.
